MeMotiva FAQ English

What is MeMotiva?

MeMotiva is a program designed to train the working memory in children and adults with concentration difficulties and ADHD. The name MeMotiva comes from a wordgame in Spanish; MEMOria operaTIVA.

What is "Working Memory"?

Working memory (WM) is considered a complex system of processing and storage of information during complex cognitive tasks as learning, comprehension and reasoning. Working memory (short-term memory) is the system where the individual manages the information from which is interacting with the environment. Although this information is more durable than the one stored in sensory memory it is limited to approximately 7 ± 2 items for 10 seconds (memory span).

Why MeMotiva?

Se ha demostrado que con este programa, destinado a personas con TDAH, se mejora significativamente el rendimiento en memoria operativa visual, memoria operativa verbal, respuesta de inhibición y la capacidad de resolución de problemas.

Who can benefit from MeMotiva?

Children with ADHD have a very limited working memory that may lead to a "slip" when wanting to solve tasks such as calculating or reading. Children who have problems with short-term memory (or memory) often forget simple things of everyday life. They normally have trouble sorting out the main parts of  instructions and they have problems with arithmetic, reading and math when contrasting information.

Can we work with MeMotiva at home or do we need to consult a professional?

Yes you can work at home with MeMotiva since it has a tutorial leaflet which tells you how to set up the training and it also explains all the steps throughout the training. So the monitoring can be made by both parents and professionals. A book always accompanies the purchase of the program.

Can the children do the training alone?

Yes, but not from the beginning. To start, you should sit down with them to make sure that the child is working correctly. Seeing the interest of the parents also increases the motivation in most children. However, after acheiving a routine in the training, making sure that they are motivated and is focused on the task, you can, especially with older children, let them work alone. In any case, they should sit alone in a quit room and kept out of other distractions.

How do I acheive the best results?

For maximum efficiency MeMotiva it is essential to conduct the training on a regular and systematic manner. To accomplish this, we recommend using the tutorial leaflet which comes with the program. The methodology helps both the person who manages the treatment and the child to maintain regularity. The book offers advice to professional training and helps maintain the structure throughout the treatment. Finally, it helps establish a system of rewards to the person conducting the training.
